LinkedIn: posting rules and settings
What a LinkedIn channel accepts in Postemi: media, limits, required fields, and the fields of the settings object for the API.
Basics
linkedin, linkedin-pagePost types
The same channel accepts more than one kind of post, and each kind has different requirements. The table shows what you need for each.
| Type | Media | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Text | none | Our platform that can take the longest text. |
| Image | 1 or more images | Multiple images appear as a collage by default. |
| Carousel | 2 or more images | post_as_images_carousel: true. LinkedIn publishes it as a document. |
| Video | 1 video | No extra notes. |
Rules
- There are two separate channel types: the personal profile ("linkedin") and the company page ("linkedin-page"). Their settings are the same.
- You can mention a company in the post. You pick it in the editor, not as a settings field.
Settings fields
These fields go into the post's settings object, alongside the __type field. In the UI, you fill in the same ones in the channel's settings section.
| Field | Type | Required | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| post_as_images_carousel | boolean | no | Turns the images into a swipeable carousel. |
| carousel_name | string | no | The carousel title, if you publish it as a carousel. |
Examples
Each example is one item in the POST /public/v1/posts request's posts array. The envelope around it is always this:
{
"type": "schedule",
"date": "2026-09-15T09:00:00.000Z",
"shortLink": false,
"posts": [ /* the item below */ ]
}Text post
{
"integration": { "id": "<linkedin-channel>" },
"value": [{ "content": "<p>What we learned about launching this week.</p>", "image": [] }],
"settings": { "__type": "linkedin" }
}Carousel, with a name
carousel_name appears above the pages in LinkedIn's document view.
{
"integration": { "id": "<linkedin-channel>" },
"value": [{
"content": "<p>Five slides about launching.</p>",
"image": [
{ "id": "<media-1>", "path": "https://uploads.posty.hu/1.png" },
{ "id": "<media-2>", "path": "https://uploads.posty.hu/2.png" }
]
}],
"settings": {
"__type": "linkedin",
"post_as_images_carousel": true,
"carousel_name": "Launching in five steps"
}
}To a company page
The same fields, a different __type and a different channel ID.
{
"integration": { "id": "<linkedin-page-channel>" },
"value": [{ "content": "<p>Our team is growing.</p>", "image": [] }],
"settings": { "__type": "linkedin-page" }
}The channel ID comes from the channel list, and the path values for images and videos from media upload. The exact schema for the connected account comes from the settings schema endpoint. From the command line, the same thing is the --settings flag. See the CLI examples.
